Safe Roads

With the aim of achieving a road network that is free of risk sections, the RACC Foundation did not lower the guard in their analysis and public alert function about the roads that must be improved in order to contribute to the reduction of the accident rate.

The report on the high accident rate on the N-340 road and the proposal of immediate, specific, effective measures to solve this issue, such as the diversion of heavy trucks to the highway, in agreement with the affected town councils and the regional administration, was one of the most rigorous strategies as regards this topic, showing the highest social impact of recent times.

In 2015 the Foundation did also question the proposal of a possible approval of megatrucks or trucks of up to 25 metres and 60 tons in the General Regulation on Vehicles, and requested its suspension until carrying out a pilot test in specific sections of the road network in order to establish the impact of these huge trucks in terms of energy-efficiency, reduction of emissions, mobility costs, road safety and road impact.

We continued with the active participation in the test on the conditions of the European roads with EuroRAP and its specific performance on the Catalan road network, thus contributing to the detection and reporting of black points. Likewise, we carried out a detailed analysis of the roads crossing a large number of Catalan cities in order to propose improvements both as regards mobility and urban integration, as well as road safety. And we have extended the collection of mobility audits with the audits of urban orientation signs in Tarragona and Terres de Ponent, with the aim of detecting whether they fulfil or not the basic functions of continuity, comprehension, visibility and good understanding.
